Who is behind OzO workshop hearts?
I’m Sarah.
I was given this name, and I love it, in reference to a Bob Dylan song.
I'm not going to write a boring biography...
But to summarize, I was born into the world of a costume designer and puppeteer mother, and my first childhood wonders took place under a circus big top. I was 3 years old and I believed in mermaids, in clever dogs, in the strongest man in the world, and in the tightrope walker who floated in the sky.
When hearts become a language
All this time, I continue to embrace the contemplative within me.
I believe I promised myself to see beauty everywhere, even in the darkness of life's studio apartment-like rooms.
To turn my heart into a 360° loft with a sea view.
Today I make hearts.
It's become almost obsessive...
Majorelle blue and glitter too.
In my work as a visual artist, hearts have become a language.
Hearts that are seen,
Hearts that question,
Hearts that connect, hearts that heal a little, sometimes.
Because ultimately, what interests me isn't just making hearts. It's what they awaken in the person who looks at them. A memory, an emotion, a story. Sometimes even something one has never managed to say.
They have become the common thread of my connection to the world.
Create forms for what's happening inside
Perhaps because at one point in my life, I needed to mend my own.
And I thought there must be other hearts that also needed mending.
So I make hearts to slip into a home, to give as gifts, to hang on a wall, or to keep close as a good luck charm.
And then hearts started to take up more and more space.
Today, I don't just make hearts. I examine them. I stage them. I ask them questions. I transform them into portraits, into poetic diagnoses, into installations.
I also invite others to look at their own.
Not necessarily to mend it. But to listen to it a little better. To put an image, a form, or a few words to what beats inside.
I do all this like one cooks, like an Italian mamma who wants to feed the world.
With generosity, with care.
With the desire for everyone to find their place.
I would like these hearts to beat a little further than in my workshop.
Swings of the heart!
Like a gumball machine, I'd like to create a heart dispenser! If you feel that one of them has a place in your story, then perhaps you could open your heart to it.
